Bilae

So last night i went to my first bilae.
Baile is when there is a singer, La Mona Jimenez, sings cuarteto.
Cuarteto is the traditional music of Argentina

Here is a little history on him: Juan Carlos Jiménez Rufino (born January 11, 1951), known as La Mona Jiménez) is arguably the most popular cuarteto singer that has ever lived. He was born in Córdoba, Argentina. In 40 years of musical career Jiménez has recorded more than 75 CDs and sold more than 3 million copies all over Argentina. His 62nd CD, titled Beso a beso con La Mona ("From kiss to kiss with La Mona") sold more than one hundred thousand copies just in Córdoba.

Cuarteto is not my favorite type of music but it was definitely an EXPERIENCE!
There was a large warehouse, of about 2-3 THOUSAND people. YES THOUSAND. It was very packed and very loud. I went with the exchange student from Norway my host brother, and a bunch of his friends. We danced the traditional cuarteto dance. Cuarteto is almost always upbeat; its rhythm range is similar to that of Dominican merengue.
We got there at about 2 am, and left at 5, when it was still very loud and very alive.

I dont know if i will go back, but it was great to experience some of the true argentina
